The book titled “Foundations of Electrospinning Technology,” authored by Prof. Dr. Fahrettin Yakuphanoğlu, a faculty member of the Department of Physics, has been published. Distinguishing itself as the first Turkish resource written in its field in Türkiye, the work serves as an important reference for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as researchers working in the field of nanofiber technology.
In recent years, the electrospinning method, which has made a name for itself in many fields such as materials science, nanotechnology, biomedical applications, energy systems, and sensor technologies, stands out as one of the most effective and common techniques in nanofiber production. The fact that the literature in this field consists largely of foreign resources increased the need for a Turkish academic work. This comprehensive study prepared by Prof. Dr. Fahrettin Yakuphanoğlu aims to contribute significantly to both education and research activities by filling this gap.
While the theoretical infrastructure of electrospinning technology is discussed in detail in the book, application processes, device systems used, the effects of parameters on the nanofiber structure, and production techniques carried out with different material types are also examined comprehensively. In addition, the physical, chemical, and morphological properties of nanofibers, characterization methods, and industrial application areas are presented to the reader within a systematic integrity.
The work conveys basic concepts in an understandable language, especially for students studying in the fields of physics, materials science, and engineering at the undergraduate level; for master's and doctoral students, it includes more advanced theoretical approaches and current research topics. In this respect, the book has the character of both a textbook and a research guide. It aims to establish the scientific infrastructure of electrospinning technology on solid foundations for young researchers aiming for an academic career.
Nanofiber technology has a wide range of use such as tissue engineering, wound dressings, drug delivery systems, filtration technologies, energy storage systems, solar cells, and sensor applications. For this reason, the correct understanding and effective application of the electrospinning method is of great importance for interdisciplinary research. Prof. Dr. Yakuphanoğlu’s work offers a comprehensive perspective to researchers by bringing together both fundamental physics principles and application-oriented technical details.
Another important feature of the book is that the subjects are not only left within a theoretical framework but are supported by experimental examples and application results. Thus, readers can access guiding information on critical issues such as problems that may be encountered in the electrospinning process, parameter optimization, and material selection. In this respect, it serves as an important guide for researchers conducting studies in an academic laboratory environment.
Published at a time when nanotechnology and advanced materials research are gaining momentum in Türkiye, “Foundations of Electrospinning Technology” offers a significant contribution to the local scientific literature. The elimination of the lack of Turkish resources will enable students and researchers to access the subject faster and with a solid infrastructure. At the same time, it has the potential to increase the quality of scientific projects carried out at the national level.
This work, prepared by Prof. Dr. Fahrettin Yakuphanoğlu with his academic knowledge and research experience spanning many years, will both be used as course material in universities and will be a fundamental reference source for scientists working in the field of nanofiber technology. This valuable work, published at a time when scientific production and local academic publications are gaining importance, is a candidate to be a strong reference point for academics, students, and researchers working in the field of physics and nanotechnology. “Foundations of Electrospinning Technology” draws attention as an important work brought into the scientific literature of Türkiye.
