The “Sustainable Green Diesel Technologies Workshop,” organized by the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering of Fırat University’s Faculty of Technology, was successfully held in the İsmail Yıldırım Conference Hall of our Faculty of Science, bringing together academics and industry representatives working in the fields of renewable fuel technologies and sustainable energy systems; Prof. Dr. Fahrettin Yakuphanoğlu, a faculty member of the Department of Physics at our Faculty, also took part in the event as a speaker.
The event was organized within the framework of the “VERDEDRIVE” project carried out under the Horizon Europe Marie Skłodowska-Curie Staff Exchange (MSCA-SE) programme. The project aims to strengthen international collaborations in the development of green diesel production technologies, catalyst design, and sustainable fuel production.
In the opening speech of the workshop, the importance of sustainable fuel technologies in addressing the increasing global energy demand and combating climate change was emphasized. It was stated that green diesel fuel, obtained through catalytic processing of renewable feedstocks, stands out as a low-emission and environmentally friendly alternative.
Within the scientific programme, researchers from different institutions and countries delivered presentations. Prof. Dr. Fahrettin Yakuphanoğlu, a faculty member of the Department of Physics at our Faculty, gave the first scientific presentation of the workshop and shared his research on advanced materials and energy technologies.
The workshop also included contributions from international project partners. Representatives from Venus Roses (Bulgaria) and REZOS Brands (Greece) shared their work on sustainable fuel technologies and industrial applications with the participants. These presentations highlighted the importance of collaboration between academia and industry.
One of the organizers of the workshop, Dr. Betül Çiçek Özkan, provided information about the research conducted at Fırat University on green diesel catalysts and sustainable fuel production developed within the scope of the VERDEDRIVE project.
As part of the programme, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Turan Gürgenç also delivered a presentation and shared his studies on advanced materials used in energy applications.
The presentations and discussions held throughout the workshop made significant contributions to the development of new collaborations and the exchange of scientific knowledge in the field of sustainable energy technologies.
At the end of the event, the organizing committee thanked all speakers, project partners, and participants for their contributions, emphasizing that such international scientific events play an important role in advancing research in the field of renewable energy.
