Hosted by the Department of Statistics of our Faculty, the “Joint Reform Workshop in Statistics Education – CORESTAT,” held for the first time in Türkiye, was successfully completed with the participation of heads and deputy heads of Statistics Departments, academics, and students from 18 different universities.

The event was attended as guests of honor by Deputy Governor Armağan Yazıcı on behalf of the Governor of Elazığ, Mr. Numan Hatipoğlu; Deputy Mayor Nazif Bilginoğlu on behalf of the Mayor of Elazığ, Mr. Şahin Şerifoğulları; Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Mahmut Doğru on behalf of the Rector of Fırat University, Prof. Dr. Fahrettin Göktaş; Dean of the Faculty of Science Prof. Dr. Hasan Bulut; President of the Elazığ Organized Industrial Zone Suat Öztürk; and Chair of the Assembly of the Elazığ Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Sedat Karataş, on behalf of the President of the Chamber, Mr. İdris Alan.

On the first day, Governor of Elazığ Numan Hatipoğlu met with academics during lunch and expressed his support for the workshop.

Hosted by Fırat University and supported by the Elazığ Governorship, Elazığ Municipality, Elazığ Organized Industrial Zone, Arslanlı Holding, Elazığ Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Elazığ Commodity Exchange, certificates of appreciation were presented to the sponsors in recognition of their contributions. The panel sessions of the workshop were held at the Prof. Dr. Mustafa Temizer Conference Hall, while the closed sessions of the working groups took place at the Prof. Dr. Yasemin Açık R&D Center. The event addressed key topics such as the development of a joint curriculum, strengthening academic collaborations, and preparation for the digital learning era.

A New Era Begins with CORESTAT

Workshop Chair Prof. Dr. Sinan Çalık expressed his gratitude to the Rector of Fırat University, Prof. Dr. Fahrettin Göktaş, for his support in the realization of the workshop. Workshop Coordinators Assoc. Prof. Dr. Esra Pamukçu and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nurhan Halisdemir stated: “This organization has contributed to the development of a shared future vision for the statistics community, and its starting point is the Department of Statistics of the Faculty of Science at Fırat University. We are proud to have brought this honor to our university and department.”

Participants, who departed with warm memories of Elazığ’s hospitality, emphasized that a strong foundation had been established for future joint projects. Dean of the Faculty of Science Prof. Dr. Hasan Bulut conveyed his thanks to the CORESTAT Organizing Committee for their efforts in the successful execution of this event, and noted that it was decided to hold commission meetings in May and to organize the second workshop in September, hosted by Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University.
